Don Owen

Don Owen

Don Owen was born on Oct 08, 1959 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He began training in Wado Ryu under Sensei Dan Davies. When the dojo closed, he and Sensei Davies moved their training to the late Sensei Masaru Shintani Dojo. He also trained under Sensei Barry Lane who was also a student of Sensei Shintani. Sensei Owen now runs the Wado Ryu Karate and Kobudo program at Neworld Martial Arts Centre.

He also trains Shindo, a style of stick fighting founded by Sensei Masaru Shintani. In which he has received rank of Nidan.

Other training history includes seminars and occasional training with Professor Wally Jay, in small circle jiu jitsu, Teruo Chinen, in Okinawan Jundokan Goju Ryu, also Yoshinki Aikido under Sensei Kimeda.

He current practices and teaches both Japanese Wado Ryu and Okinawan Goju Ryu and Okinawan Kobudo, cross-trains in Rendokan Judo and Ju Jitsu, and “dabbles” in Japanese Kenjutsu and Iaido.
